Time Flies!

Wow! I apologize for the lack of blogging! It has been a crazy last few months! I have my very first student teacher working with me in my classroom this half of the year. She is almost done and I have loved every minute of it! We will all miss her when she leaves!

While she has been teaching full days, I have been able to work a little bit on creating some activities for my kiddos and for my TPT store. All of the things I have been working on have been geared toward second grade, since I have gotten official word that I will be in second grade AGAIN next year! Yeah! This will be my FIRST TIME in 7 years that I was able to stay in the same grade level for more than one year in a row! I am excited to continue to "master" the second grade!

If you go to my store (here), you will notice a bunch of new things. The biggest thing I have been working on is my math packets. I have created math packets with common core aligned activities to help make the transition a little more easy and a little more fun. I have made these for my own classroom because we haven't been able to settle on (or really find, for that matter) a math curriculum that is common core written/aligned well enough for our liking. If ANYONE has any ideas, I would love to hear them from you! Do you have a common core math curriculum at your school? It was the big discussion at our staff meeting this morning, and it was very frustrating! There will be 14 math packs total, and I just completed #6. I will have all 14 created by the beginning of next school year. We had used my created packs for math, and then we heard about Eureka math, so we decided to give it a try for the second semester, and its not really our "cup of tea", so we will be going back to just pulling and implementing our own math activities. I think I like that a little more, it gives the students a chance to have more hands-on activities and games, and they seem to enjoy it more, too. Thank goodness for Pinterest!

I am also creating HARCOURT STORY TOWN powerpoint presentations (on Notebook software) for each day/lesson to use in my classroom next year. I had been using the PCBOE website powerpoints, but they shut down and since I am new to second grade this year, I don't have them all. They will be $.50/day. Just $2.50 per lesson! I have begun creating them, and I will add them to my store as I make them. They will all be completed by the beginning of next school year.

Since my last blog post, I have also added a new fantasy writing outline. I created this because I couldn't find any outline that I could adapt to my class to cover the fantasy portion of our writing curriculum, so I just created one and it seemed to work great. You should have read some of the fun fantasy stories my kiddos came up with! You can find that here.

I have also added "At Home Copies" to my store... A list of each lessons (Harcourt Story Town) spelling words, challenge words, sight words, vocabulary words to keep at home to study and use as a reference. That is $2 and you can find it here.

I hope everyone is enjoying the warm weather. We will be hitting the 60's today! Major change from just two months ago when it was -40 without the windchill! North Dakota winter was BRUTAL this year! Thank goodness it's over...hopefully I didn't just jinx it! We had a storm on April 15 of last year. We are finally seeing grass, making me anxious for our High School Golf season! Take care and God Bless!
