StoryTown Proofreading Packet

Last year when I taught first grade, I create three packets that allowed students to edit and illustrate the proofreading sentences provided by Harcourt's StoryTown curriculum. Now that I am in second grade, I have created a proofreading packet for the provided sentences. However, this one does not have a place for illustrations, but it does have smaller writing lines to focus more on proper handwriting. This pack contains all 30 lessons, 5 days per lesson. All 5 days can be found on one sheet with writing lines. The pack for all 30 lessons is only $1.50 in my TPT store. Even if you don't have the Harcourt StoryTown curriculum, your students will benefit from this pack. Not only will they get practice fixing grammar errors, they will also work on their handwriting as well.

Second Grade Common Core Math Pack #4

We have been trucking right along in our math class using the common core math packs I have created. It seems as though I can't make them fast enough, but I am managing as best as I can. Last night I finished pack #4 and put it on my teachers pay teachers store for $10. When you're there checking it out, don't forget to check out my first three math packs as well. There will be 14 total, with 4 review packs at the end. Each pack comes with:

*10 common core based math activities
*10 common core based in-class worksheets
*10 common core based skills review homework worksheets
*10 fact practice in-class worksheets
 *10 fact homework worksheets
*1 common core skills assessment
*1 fact assessment
*1 math journal (10 lessons)
*1 Assessment Recording sheet
*1 Standards hit checklist

The lessons in the pack include: Comparing two and three digit numbers using <, >, =. Creating and interpreting bar graphs (creating a large bar graph by reviewing smaller bar graphs and using the information), three-digit place value, and writing numbers in expanded form.

I enjoy making these packs and I enjoy feedback. If there are any questions or concerns regarding these math packs, my email is provided below.

Writing, Writing, Writing...

If you're like me, you have a love/hate relationship with writing in the classroom. When my kids are pumped up and into it (writing stories for example)...I absolutely love to teach writing. But for those not-so-exciting writing assignments, I feel like I am pulling teeth to get quality writing out of my kiddos. Because of this, last year I took all of the Story Town (Harcourt) writing lessons from FIRST GRADE and created user-friendly, easy-to-use packets for kids to use and build their writing skills, while still staying with our writing curriculum. I have noticed that lots and lots of people have been using my writing packets (3 packets, 10 lessons each). Since I am teaching SECOND GRADE this year, and now that I have some extra time, I have created the first packet for the SECOND GRADE STORY TOWN WRITING LESSONS 1-10. You can find the packet here.

Writing, Writing, and more writing

Are your students like mine? Some absolutely love to write and express their thoughts..and others it feels like pulling teeth to get them to even try to produce a writing sample...I have been trying to come up with interest-picking ways to make the writing process easier. We use Harcourt's Story Town for our reading/writing curriculum. We recently starting writing summaries. MOST of my students beg me every day to write a summary, while others moan an unhappy moan at the thought of writing at all. I was looking for some fun writing strategies to help my students write better summaries about books, and stumbled across the give me 5 method. I created an easy to interpret writing template to help them better organize their thoughts. Click here to get this template! The best part? It's only $1 :). Don't forget to check out the rest of my store!

1,2,3,4......

Hello friends!
Who doesn't like to add a pop of color to their classroom? I needed a way to keep visual track of how many days we have been in school, and I was tired of the bland Saxon shapes and colors, and since we are nixing Saxon (for the time being) because of Common Core, I decided to create my own days in school tags. There are 200 colorful stars that have number labels on them ready to cut out and hang on your wall. Everything that I create and add to my TPT store, I use in my own classroom. Please check out my store ( I have lots of Story Town (harcourt) resources available for 1st and 2nd grade)....

Common Core Crazy

We are currently 13 days into the 2013-2014 school year, and already I am feeling completely overwhelmed by our new common core curriculums. My team co-teacher and I haven't been really thrilled with any of the second grade common core math resources we have come across as of late...does any one else feel that way? I have taken it upon myself to use pacing guides I have found and created my first ever second grade common core math pack. I am planning on my common core math series to have 14 "regular" packs (10 lesson each) and 4 review packs for the end of second grade. Each pack will have 10 lessons and they each contain:

*10 common core based math activities
*10 common core based in-class worksheets
*10 common core based skills review homework worksheets
*10 fact practice in-class worksheets
*10 fact homework worksheets
*1 common core skills assessment
*1 fact assessment
*1 math journal (10 lessons)
*1 Assessment Recording sheet
*1 Standards hit checklist

My first pack contains 104 pages of common core based activities and worksheets. Click here to view my Common Core Math product and my Teachers Pay Teachers store. Pack #2 will be coming soon!

Only one month left!

Hello friends,
Wow, I cannot believe that summer is already a few months in! I cannot believe we go back to school in four short weeks! It's definitely been a busy, fun summer, but by the end of July, I am ready to go back and put my new ideas to work in my classroom! I am being moved to second grade this year. This is the only primary grade I haven't had experience with. I am excited to take a walk on this journey :) I switch grade levels every year and I actually really enjoy it because it keeps me on my toes! Does any one else get moved around a lot? What do you think about it? I become such an insomniac during the summer. I am single, and I live alone, and I usually don't fall asleep until around 230...why I do this, I don't know because it makes getting up for work in the fall so much harder than it should be! I better start getting back in my old sleeping habits! I have begun to make some second grade Harcourt activities for Reading (Story Town)... you can find them on my teacherspayteachers site (Lisakay06) and are only a few $$$... you can use them to correlate with your Story Town lessons or you can use them to enhance different skills for your second graders! I also have a bunch of first grade material on there as well!

Much Love XOXO
